On this blog, we will write about our reflections about our presentations and the knowledge experiences we gain in this course.

Disease Presentation Summary
Presentation of disabilities
The presentation of disabilities was a challenge, I set out to develop the
following theme: how society reacts to disabilities. It was very complex as I
couldn't find any information to corroborate my words. In the end I managed to
finish the project and be very happy with the result even though I could not
get the maximum rating. I chose that topic because I thought it would be
something different and that it would give people the opportunity to better
understand the history and behavior of us as a society. The only thing that
went wrong is that I had in mind to add an interview to my presentation, but
the person refused at the last moment and I was unable to present the
interview, otherwise I think the presentation was very good.
The presentation of the team in
general was very good, we had many things to do and very little information
about it, but we knew how to organize and divided the tasks in such a way that
the presentation was very fluid and fruitful. We had some complications at
first as it was a lot to do and several people on the team couldn't follow the
thread. But the excellent role of our group leader allowed us to organize
everything well and make things go according to plan.
The other presentations were very
interesting, I learned a lot with them each of the groups bringing super
valuable information I have interesting. One of the ones that struck me the
most was an interview conducted by team number 2. The other teams also defended
their themes and developed them very well. I am sure that it was a challenge
for everyone to make this presentation as there is a lot of information about
it and sometimes it is overwhelming and it is very difficult to synthesize.
I feel with a lot
of pressure as I do work and during the presentation. This was due to two
reasons, the first is that the teacher informed us by giving us the assignment
that our presentations were to be used in the future by other people as a
reference and the other reason was that one of the people who was listening to
us present suffered from a disability so she had to be very responsible when
making the presentation and providing real, useful information and that under
no circumstances offended someone. At the end of the presentation I felt good
feelings as I think everything went well and I was able to convey the message I
wanted in a perfect way that I think and I hope it was so
the bad news is
that I take a bittersweet taste from this presentation as my rating was not as
expected even though I tried a lot to make sure that everything was fine.
Although I am sure that the teacher I rate as fairly as possible and if she did
not give me the note I expected is because some mistakes I must have made
undoubtedly, mistakes that I intend to fix in future presentations and I hope
that I can exceed my limits
Disabilities Presentation Reflection
Following our previous presentation, which was about communication, we were given our second presentation, which was about disabilities. We stayed in the same three groups that we were in for the first presentation. The professor gave us two weeks to prepare a presentation, a study guide, an agenda, a brochure, and a poster. The purpose of this presentation was so that it can be used by Miami Dade College for Disability Awareness month. Group 1 was in charge of talking about mobility and physical impairment, spinal cord, and brain disabilities. Group 2 talked about vision, hearing, cognitive or learning disabilities. Then group 3 talked about psychological disorders and invisible disabilities.
For this project, I was in the same group as the previous presentation, which was group 1. In total, the group had eleven people. There were 3 main topics and 8 chapters: 7-11 was Mobility and Physical impairments, 12-13 was Spinal cord, and chapter 14 was Brain. The topic I ended up choosing was mobility and physical impairments. The chapter I chose to do my presentation on was chapter 9, which was communicating in groups. At first, I was a little lost because I was not sure what to do, but I got help from my classmates. Everything was put together last minute, so gathering information and completing the assignment felt rushed. First thing I did was complete the study guide. I read my chapter and I took it from there; I included important definitions and facts that I thought were essential to know. After that, I went on to do my research for my presentation. I had to do my research on the symptoms of mobility and physical impairment disabilities. On my power point, I listed the symptoms of mobility and physical impairments and included a chart of the symptoms as a visual. At the end of my presentation, I explained how having a mobility or physical impairment disability can affect one's ability to communicate in groups.
Group 2 had to do their presentation on vision, hearing and cognitive or learning disabilities. I believe that they're presentation was good and presentable. They had sufficient information but they could've had more visuals. The group made sure to relate the disabilities to their chapters, which was good. They also interviewed individuals with these disabilities. The presentation was good overall.
Group 3 talked about psychological disorders and invisible disabilities. I think that this type of disability is very common amongst society. I am very familiar with psychological disorders and invisible disabilities because I know people that suffer from it. The group did a great job explaining how this disability affects a lot of people. This group also did an interview and with an individual. The power point provided a lot of good information and some visuals.
I feel like all the groups did a great job. With everything that is going on and classes being online, everyone is making the best of it.

Disability Presentation Reflection by Diego Nunez
After
our first successful presentation about communication we had to make a second
one about disabilities. We were divided into the same three groups as before
and each one was assigned with different disabilities. Group one had to talk
about mobility and physical impairment, spinal cord, and brain disabilities.
Group two had to talk about vision, hearing, and cognitive or learning
disabilities. Finally group three had to talk about psychological disorders and
invisible disabilities. The main goal of this project was to create a
presentation that later could be used by Miami Dade College for the purpose of
celebrating the Disability Awareness Month. We were given two weeks to
elaborate a power point presentation, a brochure, an agenda, a study guide and
a poster on the disabilities assigned.
I was in the same group as before, group one. The group had eleven people, so we decided to divide the disabilities between us. Our leader, Camila Pena, assigned each of us an assignment so we would put everything together and at the end, present. We decided to do voiceovers for our presentation which helped us a lot. Also, most of the group members interviewed someone with the disability they were assigned to, to explain a bit better how a person with these conditions might feel. Our presentation came out really good, however, we had a lot of inconveniences. Some of the group members never knew what they had to do and did not answer their phones. We managed to put all the Power Points together and made the presentation happen. We used a lot of pictures and explained everything in a simple way. Something I would have liked more is a little bit more of responsibility and order from part of my group but that is it.
Group 2 talked about vision, hearing and cognitive or learning disabilities, a very interesting and common topic. Their presentation was really good, they did not add a lot of information and images to their slides. They related their disabilities to the all the chapters and left everything clear. They also interviewed people that had any of the disabilities and briefly explained how they dealt with it. Like our group, I think everything would have been better with a little more organization, but it is understandable since everything that is happening right now.
Group 3 presented about psychological disorders and invisible disabilities; very common conditions present in our lives. The presentation was really good overall, they explained how the disability related to their chapters and how hard is having one of these disabilities. The interview helped understand the chapters and how they are related to the disability. The Power Point presentation contained a good number of images, so the slides were not to overwhelming. I think they did a really good job.
Overall, I feel like we
did a good job, we were able to understand all the chapters and how having
disability could a affect the way you communicate with others. In my life, I
have met a lot of people with different disabilities and I have always been
able to form a relation with them. I hope that Miami Dade College can use any
of our information in the Disability Awareness Month to educate others about
how others live their life and their experiences.

Disability Presentation Reflection by Camila Pena
After our previous presentation, we were assigned to work again
as a group in order to prepare a great presentation about a very controversial
topic that most people tend to avoid talking about: disabilities. Our goal was
to create an amazing presentation and materials about this topic, that could
later be used in our incredible educational institution, which is Miami Dade
College, for the purpose of celebrating the Disability Awareness Month. We were
given two weeks to work on it, to prepare a PowerPoint presentation, a poster, a
brochure, study guides, and an agenda. Together, as a group, we worked together
during those long two weeks, splitting up information and workload, helping
each other with the purpose of finishing in time, but also to achieve greatness.
As the group leader, I had many things and work to do. Besides
completing my part of the work that was assigned to me, I had to watch over my
group team members, help them if they need my help and answer any doubt they had.
Fortunately, even though I lack many qualities that a leader requires to have,
I was able to help them and together as a group we created a wonderful
presentation about the disabilities that we assigned to us: Mobility and physical
impairment, spinal cord disabilities, and brain disabilities.
Also, in order to cover all of these disabilities and being
able to finish in time, our group was divided into three subgroups, which one
of them took care of one disability and each member worked on their own part,
according to their disability and group. My group members were Claudia and
Adrian and our disability was brain disabilities, which I had a little bit of
previous knowledge of, even if I did not know about that until I did my
research on them.
How did I know about brain disabilities, you wonder? Well, my
grandmother, the woman who raised me, suffers from a brain disorder called
Parkinson disease. Parkinson disease is a degenerative disease that, over time,
paralyzes parts of your body and causes constant shaking. My grandmother, after
she had a stroke, was not able to move her right side very well and after a
while, she lost all movement on that side. Unfortunately, everything went
downhill, because her body starting to shake lightly. Very lightly, but just in
a few months, her right arm, jaw, and right leg were unable to stop shaking at
all.
After I researched about brain disabilities and their
causes, which are the destruction of brain cells caused by brain disorders, I
understood that my grandmother has a brain disability, even when my family and
I still do not see it like that. To me, disabilities are just obstacles, but
that does not mean that people with disabilities are not capable of doing the Same
things we do, in fact, they are. They are, certainly, very capable and I admire
them for that, especially my grandmother, one the strongest women I have ever
met.

Reflections for chapters 3,9, and 10
Chapter 3, 9, and 10 by Daniel Diaz
The year of 2020 has been a tragic year so far. Beginning with in the United States and Iran supposedly going to war and the corona-virus becoming more and more of a problem as it took over the world by storm, forcing everyone in quarantine. We thought the 2020 would get better but things have gotten worst. But with online class starting soon, I personally thought it was going to be hard but ever since has started, I was wrong. My classmates and my professor are making the online class so interesting. The presentation was an interesting with group 1, my group, doing our presentation on Chapter 3: Intercultural Communication, group 2 doing Chapter 9:Communicating in Groups, and last group 3 doing Chapter 10:Group Leadership and Problem Solving.
Group 1 presentation was based on Intercultural Communication. Culture is seen as a way of life. The chapter also goes over how different cultures are communicate between one another. Communication can be seen as an important in communication because it is the way we as humans talk to one another or how we express our own cultures. Take for example the United States. We are seen as a multicultural society due to early settlers that came from all over the world to settle in this land and the native american's who have lived in the United States in for centuries or even millennia's. The multicultural groups in the United States are shown to have many different ways we communicate between one another.
Group 2 had discussed about in Chapter 9: Communicating in Groups. Communication is very important in groups and how we are set up in social groups such as families or communities. Social groups are a number of persons two or more, who have some common objects of attention, who are stimulating to each other, who have common loyalty and participate in similar activities. We see examples of these social groups in our everyday life such as our friends and family and how we communicate between each other with laughter or argument. We communicate with different social groups set up new groups and communication between one another to setup new boundaries.
The final presentation was group 3, Chapter 10:Group Leadership and Problem Solving. Leaderships is the action of leading a group of people to achieve a common goal. Usually we see leaderships of all kind all around the world. Leader's are individuals who are willing to lead a community or even society in achieving a goal that they have in common with a group or society. They lead the way and take on challenges and the hardship so that they their group does not have to endorse it. Sometimes if a problem is too much for them to handle the community comes together to help each other out one way or another of some sort.
In conclusion, the presentation have really opened up my views point on how we tackle challenges in our society and how we all come together to form a solution. These presentations have taught me a lot from on how we work as a community.
Reflections by Adrian Lopez
The presentation on Friday, June
5, was spectacularly developed, all teams demonstrated a well-advanced content
mastery, and developed smoothly. It was a very entertaining class loaded with a
lot of content and information, countless topics developed that helped me to
have a greater understanding of how communication works in society. In total,
three teams were presented, the teams were made up of 11 people in total. Each
member was responsible for different topics. The presentations were developed
through PowerPoint which I found particularly good since I give fluidity to the
presentations, I get a good impression of all my classmates
My team developed Chapter 9, in my
opinion we present in a fluid and easy to understand way. Chapter 9 contains
about 33 topics which we divide evenly,
the topic that most struck me was that
of sex and gender since it gave me a
very accepted view on that subject. I found it very interesting as most people
in the U.S. mix these two things without considering that they are completely
opposite. Sex is a biological characteristic with which we are born, and the
simple gender is an orientation, communication patterns learned.
For me, the day of the presentation was a great day as I was incredibly
nervous about how I was going to handle the time arrival. But thanks to my
teammates everything went well they did an excellent job, they prepared
presentations loaded with content with all kinds of ingenious ideas. The
teacher was a bald piece for the presentations to come out the way they came out,
I support us very much and I clarify all kinds of doubts that were emerging
during the project. It was very comforting that the teacher gave us merit for
making the presentation, one of the things that took me from this experience is
the caress and dedication of the teacher.
As in all things
there were failures, I was one of them I was wrong in the order of my slides
when exposing, a small confusion that we
fixed almost at the moment to maintain the good pace that we were carrying up
to that moment. on the other computers there were also slides, the website was a little confusing that caused one
other confusion when it came to sharing the content.
When I took this
class I thought that because of the situation of covicd-19 it was going to be
very difficult as it is a communications class and I thought that not being
able to be in the classroom would make things difficult. But this project was
not demonstrated, we were able to make presentations of excellent quality from
the comfort of our homes and maintaining the security that is the most
important thing in these turbulent times. This presentation was more than a
class project, my opinion is that it was one more victory against the virus
that plagues the country and terrifies so many people. The presentations of all
my colleagues was like a call to calm a message that I communicated that if you
can and that we will not be defeated
Chapter 3, 9, 10 Reflection by Ciara Dominguez
This class started June 1st and
so much has been accomplished already. Due to the pandemic, classes have been virtual.
I personally prefer face-to-face classes because it is easier to communicate. At
first, I was afraid that classes being virtual was going to be complicated, but
it has turned out to not be that bad. This project was given to us the first
week of the semester. My group, which was group one, made a group chat on WhatsApp,
which was great because we helped each other a lot. We were assigned to random
groups by our professor and presented our projects at the end of the week. The
presentations were divided into three groups; each group was responsible for a chapter.
Group 1 presented chapter 3. This
chapter was about intercultural communication and how culture is a huge part of
society. Each member of the group picked a topic to talk about. Some of the topics
were culture, race, sex, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, and communication.
I enjoyed working with my group because everyone was very cooperative and did
their part. Some of the group members used videos to educate our classmates on their
topics. I personally liked our chapter the best because it talked about things
that can help us understand one another. Communication is one of the most
important skills to learn and being able to communicate brings us together.
Group 2 presented chapter 9, which was about
communicating in groups. What I liked a lot about this presentation was the
format of the PowerPoint and the visuals. The topics in the presentation were
families, social groups, support groups, interest groups, virtual groups, service
groups, work groups, teams and healthy groups. Basically, the presentation was
about what it means to communicate in the groups that were talked about. The
students that were in charge of this chapter did a great job with their
presentation. They explained everything very well and worked together through
the whole presentation.
Finally, group 3 did their presentation
on chapter 10, which talked about leadership and problem solving. Each slide
was dedicated to steps on how to be a good leader and know how to problem
solve. Like all the groups, they used images, but the text was too small in my
opinion. Other than that, the presentation was good. They talked about some
important points on problem solving and I was able to understand everything.
Overall, all the groups did a good job. For
the majority of the students, remote learning is fairly new. I am relieved to
say that this project went smoothly. It was our first presentation so of course
it was not perfect, but it went well. Everyone worked together in their groups
and the professor was there to help and answer all of our questions.
Chapter 3, 9, 10 Reflection by Diego Nunez
First of all, I would like to say that I am really proud
of this class because of the work we all have done, this year has not been the
best and the situation where we at right is not the greatest either. For most
of us, it was hard to adapt to an online learning experience since we all were
used to go to classroom a learn face to face. However, I think this will
benefit us because we will learn new skills we did not have before, like self-studying
and focusing at home which it is really hard.
The
professor divided the class in three different groups which would be the groups
for the whole term. Each group had to present about a different topic, group
one talked about cultures, group two talked about communicating in groups, and
group three talked about group leadership and problem solving. All of the groups
had to make a Power Point following guidelines stablished by the professor. After
listening to all the presentations, I will give my opinion about each group,
including mine, and compare the pros and cons of them.
I
will start with my group, group one. The topic assigned to us, like I said
before was culture. First, we created a group chat where we organized everything
and see what each of us would do. We divided the topics and then each of us did
our own slides to later put everything together on the Power Point project. Overall,
our group was very organized and did great, we used a lot picture to make the
slides easy to understand and associate with everything we were explaining. One
thing that I would say that was not a good idea was the YouTube videos which
kind of slowed down everything, however, it was our first time using
Collaborate Class program to make a presentation, so it is understandable. We
had to try it to see if it worked because the videos contained some good
information.
Group
two presented about communicating in groups, a very good topic for this class.
Their presentation was really good, all of them talked smoothly and they left
everything clear. The Power Point slides were great, they matched the style of all
the slides so it would look everything would look the same. They utilized a lot
of pictures making the slides simple a easy to understand, usually the slides
that have a lot of words are not the greatest because people focus too much on
them and they do not listen to the one talking. It seems like they were really
careful and organized in the process.
Last
but not least is group three which presented about leadership and problem
solving, a great skill for this type of work. Their presentation was good too,
they left everything clear and it was easy to understand. The Power Point
slides were good too, but I would have liked a more images. Some of the slides
had too much text and looked kind of messy, but like I said before, it is our
first doing all this, and it is understandable to have this kind of mistakes.
It seems like they did exactly what our group did, each person does their slide
and then put everything together.
Overall,
I think the class did very well, all the topics were easy to comprehend and the
Power Points simple and solid. The groups had some mistakes when they presented,
but again, it was our first working together, presenting something using a
program that we do not know to a hundred percent yet. I think that little by
little we all will improve and even though were not giving a public speech, we
will have the skills to do so after the we finish the class.

Chapter 3, 9, 10 presentation
Friday, June 12, 2020
Chapter 3, 9, and 10 Reflection by Claudia Vega
This class project was such a great experience in my opinion. Due to the current situation with the Coronavirus, I thought working in groups was going to be a hassle because sometimes in groups, some people slack off and don’t put in their part of the work but with my group, I couldn’t be happier with everyone’s cooperation and ability to have everything on time and very presentable. My group and I decided it would be best if we divide the work by sections and we would help each other out if we had any doubts. Regardless of the situation, it was such a great experience because we all texted back through a group chat we made in WhatsApp and we were all able to communicate and get along. Because of remote learning, getting to know your classmates on a more personal level sounded like something impossible at the beginning of the semester. Now, I feel like we can all rely on each other and communicate without being shy.
My favorite part about this project was the experience and getting to collaborate with my group of my classmates on one project. My project was on the third chapter of the book we were assigned in the class. In this chapter, there were many interesting topics discussed. Some of the most informative topics for me were Dominant cultures, co-cultures, cultural identity, religion, Socioeconomic status, disability, individualism/ collectivism, Chronemics, low and high context cultures and developing intercultural communication competence. These topics were the most interesting to me because these are the topics that I can relate to the most in my life. Growing up in Miami, it is a very diverse city and there are many races and cultures. Many people who reside in the same neighborhood are from completely different parts of the world and this sometimes creates a barrier between people and this is why there is so much miscommunication between people. This chapter is something so important because since we all attend Miami Dade College, we all reside in South Florida and it is something everyone in the class can relate to.
When listening to group 2’s presentation, I enjoyed it more than I thought because I was looking forward to hearing about other chapters since I had so much fun creating my presentation. Group 2 presented about chapter ethics, health groups, metal health, and conflicts with miscommunication. In this presentation, one thing someone said really called my attention and it was when they were explaining about mental health and support groups. Recently one of my family members went through something traumatic and she had to attend a mental health group and she explained to me how helpful it was to talk to people who understood what she was going through. I think mental health is a bit underrated, especially in the fast-paced country we live in. There is a lot of stress in our lives and sometimes we just have to unwind and vent to someone about our situations.
In conclusion, working my group was very fun and it was a unique experience. Despite the circumstances of remote learning, this was surprisingly easy.

Chapter 3, 9, 10 Reflection!
It
is incredible how in so such a short period of time, we have done so much. Our
class started on June 1st, after a month of rest, in which we were preparing
for upcoming semester and dealing the current situation that is affecting everyone.
This is critical time for us students, yet we keep going forward no matter
what. We keep going no matter what and that is what we are doing in our class.
Since, only two days after we started this new course, we came
together as groups and presented the chapters that were assigned to us by our
professor. We worked together in order to prepare a wonderful presentation,
worthy of this course and when the moment came, we throve. Every group showed
their skills and managed to capture our professor’s attention and expressed
their points clearly.
The
presentations were divided into three groups, each of them in charge of
presenting a different chapter of our course. Group 1 presented chapter 3;
group 2 presented chapter 9; and chapter 10 was presented by group 3. Each
member of each group studied and researched about their parts in order to successfully
express their points of view.
Group
1 presented about intercultural communication, showing us how culture has a
significant impact on society and how people interact with each other. Depending
on the culture, people behave in a certain way. For example, in the United States
of America, a country with a multi-cultured society, people tend to be behave
depending either if they are from a Hispanic culture or North American one. Additionally,
other factors as gender, sex, age, disabilities, and religion affect the
communication among people in a society. And, even though their presentation was
not perfect, they effectively conveyed the topic and their opinions.
Then,
group 2 presented about communication in groups, such as families, interest
groups, support groups, virtual groups, social groups, etc., and how the work
together as teams in order to achieve a mutual goal. They interact together as
a family and distribute the tasks they need to complete for them to complete
their goal. And, of course, these groups always need to be synergetic, meaning
that everyone works equally and a balance regarding the work that has to be
done is established. In my opinion, group 2 presented this topic very well,
giving lots of examples, making it easier to understand the content of this
chapter.
Finally,
group 3 talked about group leadership and problem solving. They talked about
how important leadership is in order for a group to success, because, without
any guidance from a leader, a group could not be able to complete all of their
tasks in time and member would argue among each other. Also, problem solving is
really important as well, which can be done in meetings, where all members of a
group come together to solve said problem. And, just like the other groups,
group 3 did not stay behind and presented very well their topic.
