This class started June 1st and
so much has been accomplished already. Due to the pandemic, classes have been virtual.
I personally prefer face-to-face classes because it is easier to communicate. At
first, I was afraid that classes being virtual was going to be complicated, but
it has turned out to not be that bad. This project was given to us the first
week of the semester. My group, which was group one, made a group chat on WhatsApp,
which was great because we helped each other a lot. We were assigned to random
groups by our professor and presented our projects at the end of the week. The
presentations were divided into three groups; each group was responsible for a chapter.
Group 1 presented chapter 3. This
chapter was about intercultural communication and how culture is a huge part of
society. Each member of the group picked a topic to talk about. Some of the topics
were culture, race, sex, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, and communication.
I enjoyed working with my group because everyone was very cooperative and did
their part. Some of the group members used videos to educate our classmates on their
topics. I personally liked our chapter the best because it talked about things
that can help us understand one another. Communication is one of the most
important skills to learn and being able to communicate brings us together.
Group 2 presented chapter 9, which was about
communicating in groups. What I liked a lot about this presentation was the
format of the PowerPoint and the visuals. The topics in the presentation were
families, social groups, support groups, interest groups, virtual groups, service
groups, work groups, teams and healthy groups. Basically, the presentation was
about what it means to communicate in the groups that were talked about. The
students that were in charge of this chapter did a great job with their
presentation. They explained everything very well and worked together through
the whole presentation.
Finally, group 3 did their presentation
on chapter 10, which talked about leadership and problem solving. Each slide
was dedicated to steps on how to be a good leader and know how to problem
solve. Like all the groups, they used images, but the text was too small in my
opinion. Other than that, the presentation was good. They talked about some
important points on problem solving and I was able to understand everything.
Overall, all the groups did a good job. For
the majority of the students, remote learning is fairly new. I am relieved to
say that this project went smoothly. It was our first presentation so of course
it was not perfect, but it went well. Everyone worked together in their groups
and the professor was there to help and answer all of our questions.
Very nice reflection. I really enjoyed reading it.
